EUROPE’S BEST SPOT FOR CHERRY BLOSSOMS 🌸

Did you know that Kersenbloesempark in Amstelveen was voted Europe’s best place to see the cherry blossoms? 🌸✨ Located just outside Amsterdam, this stunning park is home to 400 cherry trees, a beautiful gift from the Japan Women’s Club in 2000. It’s the perfect spot to immerse yourself in the beauty of sakura season!

In March 2024, Kersenbloesempark was crowned Europe’s best cherry blossom viewing spot, making it a must-visit destination this spring. 🌿

The cherry blossoms are currently in full bloom, so don’t wait too long to experience this breathtaking scene for yourselves 🌸

THE BENEFITS OF BATHING IN ICELAND’S LAGOONS

Soaking in the Blue Lagoon’s geothermal waters is packed with real health and skincare benefits. The first thing I noticed? How incredibly soft the water felt on my skin—it’s packed with silica, minerals, and algae, all known for their skin-rejuvenating properties.

Here’s why:

✨ Instant glow-up – I slathered on the famous silica mud mask (which they hand you for free at the in-water bar!), and within minutes, my skin felt baby soft. It’s no wonder people swear by this stuff for exfoliation and hydration.

✨Healing waters – With its mineral-rich water, the Blue Lagoon is known to help with skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. I don’t have either, but I did notice how soothed and refreshed my skin felt after soaking for just an hour.

✨Pure relaxation – Floating in the steamy blue water with the crisp Icelandic air on my face was pure bliss. My muscles instantly relaxed, and I slept like a baby that night!

5 THINGS TO KNOW IF YOU ARE SEEING THE NORTHERN LIGHTS FOR THE FIRST TIME

Chasing the aurora borealis? Here’s what you need to know before your first Northern Lights trip!

1️⃣ They are not always as bright as they look in photos 📸
Your iPhone or camera increases exposure, making the colors pop. In reality, they can appear more like a soft, dancing glow to the naked eye.

2️⃣ Your phone can capture them better than your eyes can 📷
Even if the lights look faint, your phone’s Night Mode or a long-exposure app can reveal colors you didn’t even realize were there!

3️⃣ Timing is everything ⏳
The best months to see the Northern Lights are September to March, when nights are longest. Check the aurora forecast, but also make sure to avoid city lights and aim for clear skies.

4️⃣ You need patience 🌙
The aurora isn’t guaranteed. It can take hours of waiting in the cold, so layer up, bring snacks, and stay warm while you wait for the magic.

5️⃣ They move faster than you expect!
Unlike slow, drifting clouds, the Northern Lights can twist, swirl, and dance across the sky in seconds. Blink, and you might miss a breathtaking moment!

This obviously isn’t everyone’s experience - but it was ours…

What started as a normal drive in Iceland quickly turned into whiteout conditions, icy roads, and brutal winds. ❄️🌪️

We were still 45km from the city, and turning back wasn’t an option. Iceland’s weather changes fast, and winter driving here is no joke! If you’re planning a road trip, be prepared for anything—check road conditions, rent a 4x4, and know when to call it quits.

ICELAND’S GOLDEN CIRCLE ❄️✨

There’s something truly magical about standing before a frozen waterfall, watching glistening icicles cling to the cliffs as mist rises from the rushing water beneath. That’s exactly how our Golden Circle adventure in Iceland began!

🚗 What is the Golden Circle?
This iconic Icelandic road trip route is a must-do, covering some of the country’s most breathtaking natural wonders—all within a day’s drive from Reykjavík. Here’s where we stopped:

📍 Þingvellir National Park – A UNESCO site where you can literally walk between two tectonic plates (North American and Eurasian). The landscapes are stunning, and it’s rich in Viking history.

📍 Geysir Geothermal Area – Home to a geyser that erupts every 5-10 minutes, shooting boiling water high into the air. It’s surreal to stand there, waiting for the ground to explode!

📍 Gullfoss Waterfall – One of Iceland’s most powerful waterfalls, especially stunning in winter when ice forms along its edges. The sheer force and mist make it feel like something out of a fantasy movie.

Don’t rush—these stops are worth soaking in.

PRO TIP: Start early to beat the tour bus crowds—or in this case, join them! There’s no shame in opting for a guided tour instead of driving yourself, especially in winter. Iceland’s weather is unpredictable, and snowstorms can hit at any time, making driving conditions tricky. Roads can be icy, winds are strong, and visibility can change in an instant. If you’re not comfortable with winter driving, skip the hassle and book a Golden Circle day trip instead! You’ll stay safe, warm, and stress-free while still experiencing all the highlights.

Is the Blue Lagoon in Iceland really worth it? Here’s my biggest tip! 💦✨

The Blue Lagoon is one of Iceland’s most famous geothermal spas, but it’s also crowded and pricey. While you can still have a great experience, here’s a better way to enjoy the same mineral-rich waters—without the crowds!

📍 Book a stay at Silica Hotel, located right next to the Blue Lagoon. Your stay includes free access to the private Silica Lagoon, where you’ll get the same geothermal waters, healing silica mud, and steamy blue pools—but with way fewer people! Chances are, you’ll have the place all to yourself.

We visited both and we can honestly say it’s the ultimate luxury experience—no crowds, just pure relaxation and breathtaking Icelandic nature.

We found that one full day in Reykjavík was more than enough, as the real beauty of Iceland lies beyond the city. But if you’re here, here’s what to see and do - save this post for later!

✨Hallgrímskirkja – Reykjavík’s iconic church. Climb the tower for breathtaking views of the colorful rooftops and surrounding mountains.

✨Harpa Concert Hall – A striking glass building inspired by Iceland’s basalt columns. Free to enter, and the reflections at sunset are magical!

✨Perlan – Home to a 360° observation deck, an ice cave exhibition, and a Northern Lights show—perfect for a rainy day.

✨FlyOver Iceland – A thrilling immersive experience that “flies” you over Iceland’s stunning landscapes—perfect if you’re short on time!

✨Sky Lagoon – A stunning new geothermal spa with an infinity-edge pool overlooking the Atlantic, plus a unique 7-step ritual for relaxation. We didn’t visit as we chose the Blue Lagoon instead but I’m told it’s better!

✨ Laugavegur Street – The main shopping and nightlife street, full of quirky boutiques, cozy cafés, and street art.

PRO TIP: Tap water here is the purest in the world—so don’t bother buying bottled water!
